What an expert actually does
An expert witness is not an advocate. My duty is to the court — not to the party who engages me. That obligation is fundamental, and it is what makes expert evidence credible. A report that strains to support a client's position will not survive challenge. Evidence that is honest, measured, and scientifically defensible will.
As a toxicology expert, I provide opinion on matters that require specialist scientific knowledge beyond the experience of a judge, magistrate, or jury. I explain what drug and toxicological evidence means, what it does not mean, and where the limits of the science lie.
My legal training means I understand how evidence is tested — which shapes how I construct my opinions and my reports from the outset.
